DDW Pic 2458. Easter Egg

Easter Egg
On this Easter Eve, it seems appropriate to post a picture of an Easter Egg. For the past 22 years, the Grand Floridian has been displaying hollow, chocolate eggs around the lobby during this time of year. They each weigh 9 to 12 pounds and stand between 16 to 20 inches tall. There seems to be more each year, and many of them are true works of art. This classic egg has the Grand Floridian insignia in it.

DDW Pic 2457. Pirates

Pirates of the Caribbean recently reopened after a refurbishment of the "auction" scene. Instead of auctioning off brides, they are now selling food and other goods. I took this shot of the updated redhead last week, while enjoying the attraction with family.

DDW Pic 2456. American Adventure

American Adventure
The American Adventure at Epcot was recently updated. The movie montage had some changes, and there was a new orchestration of the “Golden Dream” soundtrack. I had the chance to experience the updates last week, when I took this shot of Mark Twain and Ben Franklin.

DDW Pic 2455. Main Street, USA

Main Street, USA
The Main Street, USA area of Magic Kingdom is full of great details that highlight the early 1900s in middle America. This hitching post can be found near the Main Street Confectionery. I took this shot while visiting with family last week.

DDW Pic 2454. Carousel of Progress

Carousel of Progress
Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress is one of the most iconic Disney attractions ever created. It is the only attraction at Magic Kingdom that Walt Disney, himself, physically worked on. I sat in the front row a few days ago, and was able to get these “close up” shots of the dad in each scene.

DDW Pic 2453. Giraffe

The giraffes are a prominent part of Kilimanjaro Safaris. Guests can usually see a handful of them while riding thru the savanna. I took this shot of a giraffe sitting down, while enjoying the attraction with family today.

DDW Pic 2452. Woody

There are so many good topiaries at this year’s Flower and Garden Festival. Woody can be found in the America area of World Showcase. His co-star, Buzz Lightyear, is in Future World, near the Mission Space attraction.

DDW Pic 2451. Goofy

There are many opportunities to see Goofy around Magic Kingdom. You can meet him in Storybook Circus and watch him in the afternoon parade. In addition, he has a prominent spot in the Move It, Shake It, Dance & Play It Street Party. I took this shot of him during that “party“ a few days ago.

DDW Pic 2450. Tortuga Tavern

Tortuga Tavern
Tortuga Tavern is an Adventureland quick-service restaurant that is open seasonally. Even when they aren’t serving food, there are some nice seating areas where guests can sit and take a break. Most of the dining areas are relatively open to the outside, but this room, with the Blackbeard mural, is climate controlled. It is a nice spot to warm up on a cold morning.

DDW Pic 2449. Chinese Theater

Chinese Theater
The Chinese Theater at Hollywood Studios is undergoing a major transformation on the inside, as a brand new attraction is being created. However, the outside of the building is not changing. One of the windows still contains this memorabilia from the world premiere of Mary Poppins.

DDW Pic 2448. Lappet-faced Vulture

Lappet-faced Vulture
There are two lappet-faced vultures that can be seen at Animal Kingdom. These large birds are located in the same area as the kangaroos. I took this shot yesterday, from near the base of the Tree of Life.

DDW Pic 2447. Morocco

Morocco is one of my favorite pavilions for relaxing at Epcot. There are several “out of the way” spots to take a break. I was sitting at one such spot when I took this shot a few days ago.

DDW Pic 2445. Roy O. Disney

Roy O. Disney
Built in 1916, the Roy O. Disney is the oldest of the Magic Kingdom steam engines. I took this shot today, just after it pulled out of Fantasyland Station. This is one if the few areas of the park where a full view of the train is possible.

DDW Pic 2444. The Pirates League

The Pirates League
The Pirates League is an experience at Magic Kingdom where guests can get “made up” like a pirate. It is a popular activity, especially with young boys. This mannequin stands outside of the salon, as an example of what can be done.

DDW Pic 2443. Maleficent

The Festival of Fantasy Parade includes some great floats and so many classic Disney characters. My favorite is definitely Maleficent. This large dragon has quiet a presence with its large moving parts and fire breathing head.

DDW Pic 2442. Gorilla Falls

Gorilla Falls

The Gorilla Falls area of Animal Kingdom is one of my favorite spots at Walt Disney World. This waterfall can actually be seen right near the exit of Kilimanjaro Safaris. There are four, male, silverback gorillas that live here, and you can see one of them sleeping here.

DDW Pic 2441. Fantasyland

This is normally one of the busiest areas of the busiest theme park in the world. However, if you get here before the park officially opens, you can get this “empty” shot. I took this photo while waiting for my tour guests to finish up breakfast at Cinderella’s Royal Table.

DDW Pic 2440. Expedition Everest

Expedition Everest
I have posted many photos of Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom. However, the majority of them were during the day. Last week, I took this shot at dusk, shortly before the Rivers of Light show began.

DDW Pic 2439. United Kingdom

United Kingdom
The United Kingdom at Epcot features a “Hyde Park” area toward the back of the pavilion. This is where guests can see the band, British Revolution, perform each day. I took this shot while giving a tour last week.

DDW Pic 2438. Winnie the Pooh

Winnie the Pooh
Winnie the Pooh is a very popular character at Magic Kingdom, with an attraction, a meet-and-greet location, and even a character dining spot. While giving a tour over the weekend, I spotted him coming out of a backstage area in Fantasyland. He was on his way to his meet-and-greet spot with Tigger.

DDW Pic 2437. Adventureland

Adventureland is full of interesting details. This  animal is an Asian Water Buffalo when viewed from Adventureland. However, it can also be seen from Frontierland. From that area, this same animal is considered a Texas Longhorn Steer.

DDW Pic 2436. Future World

Future World
The Imagination pavilion, with its glass pyramids, has been an Epcot icon since the park opened. While giving a tour yesterday, I saw this shot coming into view. The monorail passing through this area is quintessential Future World.

DDW Pic 2435. Anna

With the Flower and Garden Festival in full swing, it is fun to roam around Epcot to photograph this year’s topiaries. Of course Anna and Elsa are located in the Norway area. I took this shot of Anna while giving a tour today.

DDW Pic 2434. Columbia Harbour House

Columbia Harbour House
There are so many easily overlooked details in the restaurants at Walt Disney World. The Columbia Harbour House at Magic Kingdom is full of pictures, signs, and objects from colonial times. I took this shot today, near an exit door on the Hall of Presidents side of the building.

DDW Pic 2433. Grand 1 Yacht

Grand 1 Yacht
Walt Disney World has several specialty cruises. The Grand 1 Yacht is a 52 foot Sea Ray that can be rented from the Grand Floridian Resort. A nighttime cruise gives guests a unique view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks. I took this shot today from the MK ferry boat.
